Executive Director at nnfinity

“I associate Europe with privilege that allows for individuals to exercise choice (freedom to pursue dreams, freedom to live how you choose to live, freedom to face the future…). My wish is for Europe to acknowledge its role in the trajectories of nations of the developing world (particularly Africa). From that, my wish is for Europe to recognise that nations of the developing world have much to offer in terms of human capital, innovation and creativity especially as these are the very nations that have shown an audacious ability to leapfrog some of Europe’s processes when it comes to advancement. I think it – and by no means is this an original thought – that Europe faces the challenge of breaking away from “business as usual”. The world is ever so dynamic and unpredictable and so the norms of how we provide solutions to challenges no longer apply. My company’s contribution is through its objective of growing African women owned businesses. Each of these businesses, run by real people, are sites for potential collaboration, partnership-building and shared wealth creation. Each of these businesses is a contact point for a corridor of exchange (knowledge, ideas, guidance, people, culture) between Europe and Africa.”

We are a team that is highly analytical and very creative. As entrepreneurs, we are unencumbered by textbook solutions and are driven by impact. This also means we are not afraid to fail and when we do, we do it quickly and draw lessons from that. We are incisive thinkers who can dissect problems thoroughly whilst able to lead teams into making objective decisions that lead to business growth.

Typical of any startup, the last two years have been of tremendous learning through trial and error. This year, we are proud to announce that we are ready to launch our most ambitious programme – The Growth Maker Programme.

The Growth Maker Programme is a 9-month cohort-based exchange programme for women-owned businesses in the creative industries. It is built on the understanding that women own most businesses in the creative industries and that should there be interventions to grow these businesses, they are enabled to create more jobs for other women. Businesses in the creative industries are labour-intensive and are uniquely positioned to harness the benefits of technology in order to improve efficiency and to augment output. As nnfinity, we also understand and appreciate the value of people-to-people and peer-driven exchanges so the Growth Maker Programme includes an element where a fixed number of entrepreneurs from South Africa are connected with the corresponding number of entrepreneurs in a city outside of South Africa.
